PHV Driver Winter Driving Checklist
It’s time to wrap up, hit the road and make the most of the December rush! But before you do, make sure you and your vehicle are ready to face the winter weather. We’ve put together a short checklist to help you on your way.
Even if you have the best heating system in the world, it is wise to keep some winter essentials like a woolly hat and gloves in your car. These will come in handy for the days you need to park and go meet your passengers or if something unfortunate happens and your vehicle breaks down.
We all know these are must-haves for winter, but somehow the scrapper goes missing by the time winter comes along. So, make sure you check you still have your ice scraper and don’t forget to top up your anti-freeze and grab yourself some de-icer. Remember, it’s a legal requirement to ensure your front and rear windscreens are clear before driving.
Following on from the previous point of legal requirement to ensure windscreens are clear before driving, ensure you have good windscreen wipers. As well as this, the winter nights come around earlier, and you should make sure your lights are working and clean to get the best possible visibility.
Stopping distance increases due to the winter weather. Ensure your brakes are in good working order, check your brake fluids are topped up, and don’t risk your own safety or your passenger’s safety by ignoring any signs of worn-out brakes.
The darker winter weather can make it difficult to find door numbers when picking up passengers at night. So, do yourself a favour and have a little torch handy to help you find the pickup addresses easily. The faster you find the customer, the happier they are and the more jobs you can squeeze in.
We hope you all have a successful December and a positive start to 2025. If you are considering upgrading your car in the new year, please check out our partners at Ayan who offer interest-free rent to buy PCO cars, if you sign up now you will also get a £50 bonus!
