We can all agree that the current TfL online licensing portal for drivers who are applying or renewing their PHV drivers’ licence feels very outdated. Back in 2020, when TfL encouraged drivers to use their online licensing portal over the existing paper application forms, it was somewhat of a mixed welcome. The current platform is very buggy and not user-friendly.

This week TfL has announced they will be upgrading the current system, and the existing system will be unavailable from 5pm on Thursday 20 February to 10am on Monday 24 February. 

The upgrade is much needed and a welcome change.  We hope it becomes more user friendly.  A new user interface for the TfL online licensing portal will hopefully make it easier for drivers to apply for their Private Hire Vehicle Drivers licence as well as existing drivers to renew their PHV drivers’ licence.

What would be even more welcomed is a one stop online portal that allows PHV drivers to not only apply and renew their licence, but the option to make updates or inform TfL of any changes.  Furthermore, what would be even greater is, if the option for booking in vehicle inspections, booking the TfL topographical skills online, booking TfL SERU online was all in one place. 

We look forward to seeing what upgrades TfL will do to their online licensing portal and of course, we will update everyone with the details of the new TfL online licensing portal.
